It's not as fun as you might imagine writing about a blowout like this so it's gonna be a sort of "picture book" kinda update here. . .
RECAP:
PLAYER(S) OF THE GAME:
5-6, 4 RBI, 6 R |
4-5, BB, 5 RBI, 2 R |
3-5, RBI, 4 R |
3-4, BB, RBI, 4 R |
DRIVE OF THE GAME: Big Mike hit a shot in the fifth for 2 RBIs that began to open the floodgates. It was 4-3 when he hit the ball cleanly into center. It would never be 4-3 again.
PLAY OF THE GAME:
I just spent ten minutes trying to find a video of this kind of play but I didn't have any luck. Dave dove fully extended to his right to catch a hard-hit line drive that was sinking behind the third base bag. It wasn't enough just to catch it, but the Noble on first had to be hung up in between first and second. From his knees, Dave threw a one-hop all the way across the diamond (what I thought was a pretty good throw considering it was FROM HIS KNEES) that Mike expertly picked to double the runner off.
Play Of The Season y'all. Let's go over it just one more time to make sure we all understand what Dave did on Saturday. Okay, screaming line drive down the third base line . . . full dive to catch it behind the bag. Right, okay. Sees he has a chance to get the guy trying to get back to first. Uh huh. K. Without any unnecessary hesitation, throws one-hop all the way across the infield. So. Huh. Essentially the longest throw one can make while within the infield . . . and . . . from his knees. Beautiful pick by Mike at first. Play Of The Season. My vote. You just don't see stuff like that in person ever, and never in front of your face, your own teammate doing it.
I've done an awful job selling this play but if you were there and saw it, you don't need me to try to summarize. Especially when Craig can do it for me. This was his live demonstration of what it looked like:

Glad that's over with.
