STOP WITH THE HATEMAIL MY MOM IS WORRIED ABOUT ME

PLAYER OF THE GAME:  Sorry guys, due to the overwhelming amount of hatemail and deaththreats I'm receiving as captain of the 29ERS BASEBALL CLUB, there will be NO PLAYER OF THE GAME from the Oakland Beers meltdown game. Hey, you all played great baseball . . . and I guess that's the problem?

PLAY OF THE GAME: There were NO PLAYS OF THE GAME. How could you even be so cruel to suggest we would look back at some of the genuinely great baseball plays we made on Sunday? Are you a sociopath or something? It's been suggested that members of this team are. Nope, no POTG. It certainly wasn't Alex's brilliant one hopper from RF on a Beer trying to score from second. That Beer being Adam Stonehouse, no less. And Mike hanging onto the ball like a champ.  No, no, it wasn't that. It wasn't the two nimble 6-4-3 double plays Bobby and I and Colin/Craig matched up on, one of which nearly led to a TRIPLE PLAY due to Beers baserunning.  Nah, not those.  Nor was it Ricky's "oh-hai-I'm-back-and-did-u-know-I-can-play-CF?" bullet to the plate to nail another Beer trying to score from second.  Absolutely not any of those plays.  We will return to our normal formatting next week after the News game.

DALY CITY BRIANS
1

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Louie Rappoport.  Making the most out of his first start, Louie, terminator shades and all, quietly laid down Brian after Brian.  He fell behind 3-0 about four or five times and each time save one he threw a quality strike to stay battling the hitter and eventually get them out. A complete game 8K 1R 1ER 3BB day something to be proud of kid, especially on a team like the Brians, whose 0-7 record doesn't really indicate how well they can hit.  I've seen them doing BP at Rolph and just FLIPPING dingers like it was no big deal, so setting them down one by one with Louie's personal style of cold precision is even more remarkable.  Looks like you're in the rotation Lou!

PLAY OF THE GAME: Great heads up back-up play on a sort of sinking liner that came right off the glove of Alex in RF.  One of the Brians was on second base and had to hold to see if it was caught, and when it wasn't he took off.  Pat had hustled over and backed up Alex and shot the ball into Colin near the bag at second and Colin fired a one-hop strike to LunchBox at the plate who was able to catch the ball and make a nice tag while blocking the plate, preserving (for the time being) the shutout Lou had going.  It happened really fast but you were there, you saw it, nothing I can say will make it cooler than it already is in your memory.  Just keep it there, and know that that kind of execution will not only win PCHL ballgames, but you could see your name mentioned in a future POTG if you're into that sort of low-level beer league near-Internet-celebrity status!

CLEARLY NEEDED TO BE MENTIONED SOMEWHERE: In a ballgame like yesterday's, I would gladly trade outs every time just to see LunchBox attempt to pirouette over/under/beside/along the opposing catcher.  To me, at least, it seemed as though he hung in the air for an extra beat or two than is normal, but that could have been my hangover.  Nice pick-off of that Brian leading off second, too LB!

. . . on to the . . .

Will knocked in his first RBIs of the season after a private coaching session with temporary bench guru and P.R. specialist Ricky. Later he got laid.

Gantz had a monster game as well, going 3-4 while striking out 16 Dealers en route to his second win of the season.

Props to all for never getting down on this game and fighting back against the toughest non-ringer ringer in the league.

PLAY OF THE GAME: The last out that fuckin shut this thing down with two guys on in a one run game that prevented it from going into potentially murky extra-innings.

WEIRD "SPORTSMANLIKE" SHOUT-OUT: We could all do better to start making sure Sam Bull gets out. Let's not be the team he again breaks his hideously embarrassing 2-16 streak against with a 5-hit game, mmkay?

THING OF THE GAME: The dark farm where Boof mines aspiring High Class-A pitchers.  I imagine it something like the goo they bear orcs out of in LOTR.  Or something in the water in the Richmond, maybe.

Anyway, Lunch Box went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored, so there ya go.  Atta way Lunch Brandon.

NO PLAY OF THE GAME THIS WEEK GUYS

I'm just jokin y'all, our win streak did have to end eventually, keep grinding etc etc etc for the fan(s) blah blah great clubhouse d00ds but hey, Dave was right, you guys stayed up in a game where we could have been been staring at our spikes pretty much the entire time. Do not feel bad about losing to a top college prospect! (jk)

No really though I don't remember any really outstanding plays, Dave did have have one he snared in the wind and fog though. You got it, Dave. Actually Play Of The Game was us all getting blasted in Bobby's backyard -- happy birthday, man. I was still drunk when I woke up :/

SUNSET NOBLES
3 :(

PLAYER OF THE GAME: This was kinda a tough call, but Ryan Gantz's CG and big go-ahead 2 RBI knock sorta sealed the deal. After allowing 3 runs (2 earned) thru the first couple innings, Gantz went in shut down mode and just mowed down the Nobles.  He also went 2-4 with 2 walks, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. On the bump he threw 8 innings, 8 Ks with 4 BBs.

Big shout out to Alex Williamson's big boy double, good for a solid RBI. Watching him watching that gapper was priceless, his mouth all agape. Won't soon forget.

Another shout out to the homie Lunch Box. That Craig Matoes tried to blast him at the plate and rebroke his nose, but Brandon just stood there - "LUNCH IS SERVED, BITCH"

PLAY OF THE GAME: Dave's seed he threw home that got that fool Matoes was TIGHT. Perfectly executed, Dave fielded the sharp line drive beautifully and threw right through Gantz who was lined up with home plate. Nice little one hop into Brandon's glove and Matoes was a dead duck. "LUNCH IS SERVED, BITCH"  --- I could type that forever.

BERKELEY "NEWS"

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Well, I wasn't there but it's pretty plain to see from the stats and various incoming text messages that both PAT LENNEN and BOBBY RENZ were both a couple of straight-up PIMPS in Saturday's win over Berkeley. Pat with an amazing (5-5, 1 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R) day at the plate off of one of the craftiest little pitchers in the league, and Bobby with a big CG (13 K, 2 BB, 8 R, 2 ER) off of a stubborn lineup that often looks for little ways to beat you. Pimps.

PLAY OF THE GAME: I heard Gantz had a slick day in the field for the most part, scooping em up when it counted most. Not really a POTG I guess . . . Pat had a nice catch in CF? Showing off his superior range? Yes, let's go with that. Huey is going to test Pat for PEDs before our next game, watch.
